Massive iron castings, rather than wood, trim the face of this Italianate landmark. In 1999, 150
years of decorations were removed from those castings to reveal the intricate
detail that had been lost long ago. The 75-foot by 50-foot, three story (formerly
four story) brick building includes eight walk-in vaults as evidence of
its banking heritage (cash was the only option back then). |
Businesses have prospered here since the 1850's, including the operation of two competing banks and a dance hall and drinking emporium
on the third floor that left behind Victorian wallpaper, a maple dance floor
and a long silent grand piano. |
This building is zoned for virtually any use |
